at present is a Manhattan. Yes, I know it is not wine...but, a nice prelude for the wine to come. My "semi-purist" recipe...
2.5 oz Kentucky RYE whiskey
1 oz Sweet Vermouth
3 dashes Angostura Bitters
2 long stem Maraschino Cherries
1 spoonful cherry juice
Add whiskey, vermouth, bitters to ice in a shaker and shake VERY gently until frost forms on the outside of shaker. Strain into a martini glass and serve straight up. Add two cherries, cherry juice and stir gently.
Enjoy!

I had a Pomegranate martini last night at an Italian restaurant. That was pretty good.
